Tennis Terranora Incorporated has a membership base of about 160 players. Our club has a strong emphasis on junior development as well as a large number of players participating in all Tweed District competitions.

We have recently built  the largest development in the history of our club - with the construction of a new tennis centre at Henry Lawson Drive at Terranora. The new centre will be called the Joan Nicoll Centre. Joan has recently retired after nearly 30 years of dedicated coaching for our club.

Tennis Terranora had a dedicated committee of volunteers striving to build the new tennis centre within the Tweed Shire.

Our project committee consisted of 2 members of the Australian Institute of Project Management (one of whom manages $m hospital projects, an MBA, 2 high profile members of the local legal community, an architect, teachers, and many representatives from the local business and trade community.

This team not only identified newly available Structured Open Space that could be used for our new tennis centre but successfully negotiated the allocation of that land with Tweed Shire Council. The Joan Nicoll Tennis Centre has been named after our long-serving coach who continues to dedicate her highly regarded skills to the youth of our area. One of the reasons for this decision was that she is a symbol of our aspirations & the type of sporting endeavour & behaviour that we believe are important.

So our committee is well grounded with a skill set to manage a project from concept through to handover. But it also has the dedication to help our local community.

Features of the Joan Nicoll Tennis Centre

• Enable our players to compete and improve their skills on an international standard facility. In the past our junior players have had a distinct disadvantage if they have not had the opportunity to play on these ITF surfaces.
• Mean that our dedicated players, parents and and coaches will not have to travel long distances to participate in major events.
• Attract State and National Sanctioned tournaments for the benefit of sport loving residents and will therefore provide a financial gain for the community.
• Provide a tennis complex for the use of all schools and sporting groups in the Tweed area.
• Enable disabled players to participate in tennis.
• Add a valuable asset to the Tweed Shire Council.
• Ensure that the clubhouse environment will be utilised for a variety of community activities for multiple user groups and create the required revenue options.
