Food Tourism focus for Agritourism field days in Tweed Shire

Food tourism is an emerging key industry for the Northern Rivers and 2017 has seen its mix of opportunities and challenges. In a collaboration between RDA Northern Rivers, Tweed and Byron Shire councils, Northern Rivers Food and Destination Tweed to deliver some consistency across the Northern Rivers, Regionality has been appointed to deliver a 12-month, business development program for those in the food, agriculture and food tourism industry.

The first step is to hold two Food & Agritourism filed days in the Byron and Tweed Shires.

Who should attend?

  • Individuals or groups interested in finding out more about the direction of food, agriculture and the food tourism industry in the Northern Rivers.
  • Established or new farmers looking for ways to innovate, value-add or diversify e.g. activating farm tours.
  • Producers of food or beverages, or those already in the tourism industry & looking to collaborate with farmers in order create a food & agritourism experience.

What to expect on the day

  • An overview of food & agritourism opportunities, including successful case studies of farmers.
  • Options for those looking to value-add or diversity through food & agritourism on farm.
  • Information about opportunities & challenges of tourism on farm.
  • A review of tourism & consumer-related data.
  • Some insight into the approval process & regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
  • An overview of the business development program on offer to support groups of the region’s farmers & rural land holders develop their concept & move efficiently from concept to start-up or expansion.
