Senator Fierravanti-Wells will outline the key measures, with a particular focus on the significance and likely impacts for both businesses and our region.

The 2017 federal budget was handed down by treasurer Scott Morrison on Tuesday, 9 may. With key highlights for business including:

  • A commitment to lowering taxes
  • An extension to the asset write-off program for an additional year
  • Moves to incentivise states and territories to reduce red tape

In addition, there was a big commitment to regional infrastructure through the $472 million regional growth fund – including an additional $200 million for the building better regions infrastructure fund – which the treasurer described as a way to “back in the plans that regional communities are making to take control of their own economic future”.
